A very happy retirement to John!
This Friday (16th July) we say goodbye to John Timmons who has decided to take a well-earned rest and retire. John has worked for the company as a labourer since 2002. Thank you John for your service to the company. All your friends and colleagues wish you a long and healthy retirement. Over to John:
“After nearly 19 years of service for Neville’s and following much deliberation, I have decided to call it a day and retire. The time is now right for me to think about the next chapter in my life and how I’m going to spend my much earned leisure time.
“I originally came to Luton from Wicklow in Ireland during the heatwave of 1976. My first job in Barton Le Clay with Kopol Limited, was only supposed to be a stopgap for a few weeks or until I could find something similar to what I had done previously. 27 years later, I left Kopol to join Neville’s.
“Having never worked in construction before, joining Neville’s was a step into the unknown. However, I quickly got to grips with the different roles involved under the supervision of site agent, Jack Comerford. In those days, Neville’s were self-sufficient – having our own plant department, stores and multi trades labour resources and I have seen many changes since then.
“As I retire, I can not only look back on my time at Neville’s - I’ve worked with some interesting characters over the years and my favourite job was the three and half years spent at St Clement Danes in Chorleywood - but I can look to the future at how I’ll fill my time: I’ve applied for an allotment; I’ll take my dog Toby for long walks with my partner Christine; I’ll spend two or three days a week at our friends stables in Barton helping them with the horses; I’ll definitely enjoy a few pints of Guinness in the pub; and hopefully visit family in Ireland soon. The final thing – after years of getting up at 4:45am, I’ll get to enjoy a few lie-ins!”
